Karachi (Sapeher Times) JPMC Holds Awareness Session on Rabies Prevention and Dog Bite Management
Karachi (Sapeher Times) Karachi The Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) successfully organized an awareness session on rabies prevention and protection against dog bites. The session aimed to educate patients and the public about preventive measures, timely medical assistance, and appropriate treatment following a dog bite.
The programme was attended by Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Sindh Health Secretary Tahir Hussain Sangi, MNA Ms. Sharmila Faruqui, Executive Director JPMC Prof. Dr. Khalid Sher, Joint Executive Director and Head of Emergency Department Dr. Suleman, ADM Dr. Saddam Saleh, Chairman PAF Prof. Dr. Tariq Mahmood, Dean Medicine Dr. Haleema Yasmeen, Principal JSMU Dr. Amberin Usmani, along with senior faculty members, administrative staff, consultants, postgraduate trainees, students and media representatives.
During the session, participants and the public were informed that in case of a dog bite, the wound should immediately be washed thoroughly with soap and running water. People were advised not to apply chilli, oil or any household substance to the wound and to visit the nearest hospital without delay for medical examination.
Experts emphasized that rabies vaccination and other necessary treatment should be administered according to the doctor’s advice. Timely medical attention and proper treatment can play a vital role in preventing rabies and saving precious lives.
The awareness programme was organized under the directions of Prof. Dr. Khalid Sher, with the guidance and cooperation of Dr. Suleman and the Emergency Department team.
JPMC reaffirmed its commitment to continuing public awareness and educational activities, emphasizing that timely precautions, immediate medical care and appropriate treatment can help save valuable human lives.
