ISLAMABAD (Sapeher Times) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed deep satisfaction over the success of the first high-level meeting between the US and Iran under the “Islamabad MoU”, describing these talks as positive, constructive and encouraging.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan has announced that the first round of high-level talks between the US and Iran under the framework of the Islamabad MoU has been successfully completed.
Pakistan and Qatar have played an important role as mediators in this historic peace process held in the beautiful resort of Bergenstock, Switzerland, and Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep satisfaction over the success of the process.Moreover, Iranian President Masoud Peshmerga will arrive in Pakistan on a one-day visit today, Tuesday, June 23, where he will discuss various issues of bilateral relations, regional situation and mutual cooperation during his meetings with the top leadership of Pakistan. During the visit, he will consult with Pakistani officials and discuss important regional and bilateral issues. A meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is of particular importance on the agenda of the visit, during which the Iranian President will express his gratitude for Pakistan’s mediation and facilitation role in the recent diplomatic developments between Iran and the United States.
In a statement issued on the social media platform ‘X’, the Prime Minister appreciated the seriousness of the leadership of the US and Iran in advancing this peace process and thanked all friendly countries including the Swiss government.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister paid great tribute to the tireless efforts of Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir in particular, saying that “their dedication, determination and perseverance are truly commendable, without which no progress in this process would have been possible.”
He also warmly praised the diplomatic and political efforts of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, the Foreign Office team and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
In this first phase of the negotiations, a formal roadmap has been approved between the US and Iran to reach a final peace agreement within the next sixty days.
A high-level committee has been formed to politically oversee the entire process, under which special groups working under it will find solutions to major and complex issues such as Iran’s nuclear program and the US economic sanctions imposed on it.
The senior negotiators of these groups will regularly submit their reports to this high-level committee so that old disputes can be eradicated.
Major decisions have also been taken between the two countries to reduce the ongoing tensions in the region and secure maritime trade.
A direct line of communication has been established between the two countries to ensure the peaceful passage of commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz and to avoid any kind of misunderstanding or accident.
Along with this, it has also been agreed to form a special de-conflict cell, i.e. a peace committee, to completely stop military operations and war in Lebanon so that the peace and order situation can be closely monitored there.
On the other hand, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, while discussing the results of these talks, has separately made a big claim that a great progress has been made in ending the ongoing war in Lebanon.
He mentioned the huge economic benefits to Iran and said that “the US has lifted the severe sanctions on Iran’s oil exports and some of Iran’s frozen assets and billions of rupees worth of funds that were blocked around the world have also been restored.” He further said that after this major success, a huge project for the reconstruction and development of Iran will now be launched. Although the discussion on some subtle and technical matters is still ongoing, Pakistan and Qatar have reiterated their determination to continue their sincere efforts to maintain this constructive environment so that lasting peace can be established in the region.Pakistan and Qatar have issued a joint statement after the important talks between the US and Iran in the Swiss city of Bergenstock. The joint statement issued by Pakistan and Qatar after this meeting stated that a very large and high-level committee will be formed to implement the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This committee will monitor the reconciliation process between the two countries. According to the statement, separate small groups will also be formed under this committee that will work day and night to end Iran’s nuclear program, economic sanctions on it and disputes between them, and senior officers of these groups will regularly present their reports to this high-level committee. The biggest decision in this meeting was that the committee has approved a complete roadmap for completing a peace agreement within the next sixty days. Under this decision, further discussions on fine technical details will be started immediately.
Along with this, another major decision has been made for the protection of the sea route, under which a special and direct line of communication will be established to protect commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz from any kind of danger or damage and to remove mutual misunderstandings so that commercial ships can pass through the sea in peace without any fear.
In addition, a major step has also been taken to permanently stop the ongoing war in Lebanon.
According to the joint statement, all parties involved in the talks have agreed to form a special de-conflict cell, i.e. a peace committee, together with the Lebanese government, which will be looked after by the peacemaking countries, namely Pakistan and Qatar.

The main task of this committee will be to ensure that no military action or fighting resumes in Lebanon and that complete peace prevails there.

On this occasion, the two peacemaking countries, Pakistan and Qatar, have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the governments of the United States and Iran.
